Door Construction

The Hampshire Door Company make doors that last. With proper care and attention, our doors will last a lifetime. Whilst our production techniques might be modern our door construction is well and truly tried and tested.

Through, Wedged Mortice and Tenons

The main construction principle behind our doors is that they are constrcuted using through, wedged mortice and tenons (fig. 1). This is not a new technique but it is the best. The through, wedged mortice and tenon is a very secure, attractive joint which gains its strength from the wedges that are driven into the end of the tenon making a virtually unbreakable mechanical fixing. Compare this to modern techniques employed by some of our competitiors or imported doors such as dowel joints or stub tenons and we are confident that our doors will outlast those by a very long time.

Adhesives

All of our doors are constructed using a D3 PVA High Performance Water Resistant Wood Glue. This, coupled with the wedged mortise and tenons gives a very secure joint.
